How to Wash Baby Clothes - A Guide For New Parents

ALL ARTICLES

Welcome to parenthood! A new baby brings loads of happiness, love, and laundry. You’ll be surprised to learn how messy baby clothes can get. You might find yourself changing your baby’s outfit several times throughout the day.

Read on to learn how to wash baby clothes and while keeping the clothes looking brand new.

Whether you were gifted new clothes from your baby shower, or hand-me-downs from family, always wash clothing prior to use. Baby's skin can be sensitive!

Separate baby clothes from the rest of your laundry

Babies have much more delicate skin, so be sure to use a gentle detergent formulated for sensitive skin. Noodle & Boo’s Ultra-Safe Laundry Detergent is tough on stains but gentle on baby’s clothing. Our plant-based formula contains strong stain-fighting enzymes which remove stains and odors.

If your baby is prone to eczema or has extra-sensitive skin, it’s a good idea to have baby laundry detergent and baby fabric conditioner handy. Regular detergent contains chemicals that can be too harsh for baby's skin.

Doing baby laundry isn’t harder than regular adult laundry, but can be more time-consuming. Check each garment’s laundry label to make sure you’re using the right washing cycle and temperature. This will help keep your little’s clothes looking newer for longer.

Prep baby clothes and place in the washer

Pretreat stained spots on your baby’s clothing with Ultra-Strong Stain Remover and let it soak before tossing into the wash. If the stain has set in, use a soft-bristled brush to agitate the stain and help lift it.

Before washing, make sure buttons are fastened, zippers are closed, and garments are turned inside out. This will help further protect the fabric and seams. To test for colorfastness, we recommend testing on an inside seam prior to use.

PARENTING HACK: Keep small baby items such as socks, bibs, and washcloths into a mesh laundry bag. Everything will stay together and won’t disappear in the wash!

Baby Laundry

Add detergent and select cycle

Add Noodle & Boo’s Ultra-Safe Baby Laundry Detergent and Ultra-Soft Baby Fabric Conditioner to your washing machine. Our Ultra-Safe Laundry Detergent is developed for both high efficiency (h.e.) and conventional washing machines.

Be sure to check washing instructions for flame resistant pajamas before adding fabric conditioner to your laundry cycle.

Typically, baby clothes can be washed using a normal or gentle wash cycle. To prevent shrinking and stains setting, wash using cold water.

Drying Baby’s Clothes

Most baby clothes can be dried on a low cycle to prevent shrinking. You can hang baby’s clothes on a clothing line or drying rack if you have time. If your baby's clothing is made 100% cotton, you may want to hang or lay it flat to prevent shrinking.
